Sarah and I set out from a layby on the A9 to make a circuit that took in Sgairneach Mhor, Beinn Udlamain, and A’ Mharconaich. This was, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best days out in the hills I have had in my life. The snow was perfect, hard and crunchy and not deep enough to impede progress, the sun shone, the air was a pleasant temperature for walking. I think the pictures speak for themselves:
After a night in the bunk house at the Tipsy Laird in Kingussie (which comes recommended, very comfy, & good food in the pub) we attempted A’ Bhuidheanach Bheag and Carn na Caim the following day – what a difference. We trudge up the track in drifting snow, soon in a complete white out, and do not achieve our objective! Returning downhill never felt such a relief! But of course, that only means that sometime I have to trudge back up that track again. Rats!
